Only One Day in the Lake District? These Are The Must See Attractions
Sometimes, your visit to the Lake District can be fleeting - especially if you’re visiting on route to another area. So how do you know what to do if you only have 24 hours to spare?
Find below our top recommendations of what you should get up to if you’re planning on spending just one day in our beautiful area.
We’d recommend staying for longer, of course, but if you simply can’t squeeze any more time in your trip, then below are the things you MUST see and do!
1. Visit Lake Windermere
The reason why the Lake District got its name is pretty obvious, and although we’re full of lovely lakes one of the most popular is Lake Windermere.
This gorgeous slice of paradise is framed by beautiful nature and always has some water activities to venture out on, such as a cruise across the Lake.
On the Windermere shores, you can also find plenty of shops to keep you entertained as well as plenty of lovely cafes and restaurants. You’re sure to find lots of entertainment in this area.
2. Go to The World of Beatrix Potter

A lot of writers and artists have been influenced by the Lake District, and one of the most significant ones is Helen Beatrix Potter.
Famous for creating loveable characters such as Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddle-Duck, the author has created some truly exceptional children’s stories that are sure to live on.
At The World of Beatrix Potter in Windermere you’ll find a Peter Rabbit theatre, a Peter Rabbit garden as well as a wonderful exhibition and much more. We’re certain you’ll love it.
3. Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway
If you or your little ones would like to dive back in time and explore what railways used to be like, then we highly recommend a visit to the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway.
Here you can experience a steam train ride, and there’s also a lovely cafe at the station if you want to grab a bite to eat.
You can also choose whether you sit in an open or closed carriage - just make sure you consider the weather before making your decision!
4. Lakeland Motor Museum

If you fancy heading indoors for a bit of your day at the Lake District, then the Lakeland Motor Museum could be the perfect activity for you.
Here you’ll find an array of vintage cars on display, and it really is delightful to see what things used to be like back in the early days of motoring.
There is also a cafe on site at this destination, and we can assure you that even if someone in your party isn’t too keen on cars, they’ll still have a pleasant trip.
5. Honister Slate Mine
If you want to get close to a natural wonder then why not visit the Honister Slate Mine? There’s absolutely tonnes to do at this attraction with both indoor and outdoor things to see and do.
There are mine tours on offer if you fancy venturing underground, and there are also climbing tours inside if you want to take it even further.
As well as indoor activities, you can also head outside and take up some extreme activities! There are sky walking activities, as well as the Infinity Bridge, which is actually the longest in Britain.
Make sure you don’t miss out on this attraction if you fancy a bit of an adrenaline rush!
