Romantic Lake District: 3-day Itinerary for the Perfect Couples’ Break

Romantic Lake District: 3-day Itinerary for the Perfect Couples’ Break

We love offering our hospitality to happy couples here at the Hideaway.

As we’re still feeling romantic autumn vibes after our Top Romantic Attractions blog article, we’ve put together a 3-day romantic break itinerary for you to enjoy with your special someone. Treat yourself and your partner to a long weekend and get down to the Lakes on a Friday, which will allow you to make the most of your time with us.

Of course we will have your breakfast arrangements for the duration of your stay sorted, as a cooked to order breakfast is served daily; all you need to focus on is how many of the Lake District’s fabulous attractions you can fit in to your weekend!

Day 1: Friday

The check-in time at the Hideaway is 3pm, giving you plenty of time to plan your travel arrangements and get rested before venturing out for dinner.

However, if you would like to visit the Lakes earlier and be able to enjoy more of your Friday, you can ring ahead and arrange bag storage until your room is ready for you. Don’t forget that complimentary tea and homemade cakes are available each day of your stay from 2.30pm to 5pm!

For the first day of your trip, you may want to take it easy after your morning of travelling to get here. From the Hideaway, you could amble on down to Bowness-on-Windermere and pop into the Bowness Bay Visitor’s Information Centre, which is only a half hour walk or under 10 minutes for you to drive. The visitor centre is the best place to go to for information on any of the Lake District’s attractions and services, as well as allowing you to book onto any trips that take your fancy.

We would highly recommend you have an explore of this area surrounding the visitor centre near Lake Windermere, as there is some stunning scenery around here in addition to the attractive Steamer Pier.

A short walk away from the visitor centre is Beatrix Potter’s 17th century farmhouse, home to the children’s author, artist, conservationist and farmer. This ‘time capsule’ of her life lets you step back in time and see for yourself why Beatrix loved this area of the countryside, and how it inspired some of her later books.

There are plenty of places for you to enjoy an evening meal in Bowness-on-Windermere where you generally don’t need to book ahead, which is ideal when you aren’t certain where you want to eat. A favourite around the Bowness area is the award-winning Porto Restaurant, serving a seasonal menu inspired by modern British cuisine but also including some new inspired flavours in addition to an extensive selection of wines, champagnes and local ales. It is recommended you make a reservation here beforehand if possible.

Once you’ve eaten your fill, head back to the Hideaway to enjoy your luxurious, comfy guest room for the night.

Day 2: Saturday

Wake up and enjoy your complimentary breakfast at the Hideaway from 8.45am-9.45am, then hop into the car and get down to Levens Hall in Kendal; alternatively you could grab the 555 bus toward Lancaster City Centre from the bus rail interchange that is under 10 minutes walk from the Hideaway and get off at Levens Bridge.

Levens Hall is an Elizabethan house and garden that has been around for well over 5 centuries and contains some painstakingly conserved décor and furnishings. The historic home is one of the finest stately homes in south Cumbria and you and your partner will certainly lose track of time and get lost in the rich history of this beautiful house and gardens.

Once you have worked up an appetite from your morning exploring Levens Hall and gardens, you could take a short walk to the nearby pub the Hare and Hounds for lunch. This 16th century coaching inn specialises in local cask ales and fresh simple food, making it the ideal location to take the weight off your feet and rest for a little while.

Back in Bowness-on-Windermere, a half hour drive from Kendal, Windermere Lake Cruises operate daily to provide the opportunity to explore Lake Windermere by boat. With a variety of cruises running every day, a great choice for spending your afternoon is the Yellow Cruise, which is a round trip from Bowness that includes a fascinating commentary on the history, points of interest and attractions around Windermere. We can’t think of a better way to take in the scenery of the Lake District with your loved one.

Once you have disembarked from your lake cruise, you could enjoy an evening meal in the family owned Roberto’s Restaurant and Bistro for fantastic food and an extensive wine selection.

Day 3: Sunday

After enjoying your breakfast at the Hideaway, you will need to check out of your room by 11am but the hotel will be able to store your bags until a later time if you notify them of your requirements.

Walking is a very popular activity in the Lake District, and with all the stunning scenery we’re certain you won’t be able to resist joining in. At the visitor centre in Bowness-on-Windermere, you can pick up maps and guides, as well as get friendly advice from staff to help you pick out the ideal route for you to have a walk. In addition to the visitor centres, Lake District National Park Association also details walking routes on its website. If you know you aren’t very good at navigation, they also hold guided walks in a variety of different locations exploring different areas, so if this appeals to you check out their calendar of events and walks and book on early to avoid disappointment.

Once you have enjoyed your walk and taken in the stunning landscapes, you could get down to Choccobar, a contemporary coffee shop and hot chocolate house specialising in unique and interesting flavours and the perfect place to enjoy a cosy lunch.

As your short break at the Lake District draws to a close, we hope you manage to fit in all the activities you don’t want to miss. If you have been inspired to take a romantic break with us at the Hideaway, don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions. We hope to see some more happy couples soon!
