Ways to Cool Off in Windermere
The temperatures are rising and at long last Summer is officially here!
Windermere is breathtakingly beautiful at any time of year, however in Summertime when the days are longer, the sunshine is hazy and the lake beckons you in for a swim – it becomes even more attractive.
Swimming in the lake is absolutely allowed, so whilst you are staying here with us don’t miss the opportunity for the ultimate outdoor swim, the view from the water is stunning! You can take a lake cruise on board a traditional steamer and feel the clean, fresh breeze on your face. Cruises last from 45 minutes to a more leisurely 3 hours and the mountain scenery is spectacular.
Alternatively, take some respite from the sun in nearby Bowness and visit Blackwell, The Arts and Crafts House and gardens (unsurprisingly, there’s ANOTHER magnificent view across Lake Windermere). Blackwell is one of the most enchanting historic houses in the whole of the Lake District, there are no roped off areas and you are welcome to enjoy the window seats, the fireplace inglenooks, tiling, carving, plastering, stained glass paneling, and the plethora of examples of beautiful twentieth century design.
Back at the lake, you could try your hand at canoeing or kayaking, (if you do capsize at least the water will cool you off!) and if you find yourself getting a little too warm for comfort, you could easily dive in for a splash around and return to your canoe or kayak refreshed and ready to go.
There is so much to do here during the Summer; horse riding, cycling, adventures in the trees at Grizedale Forest, a trip to another of the lakes and of course a beautiful walk or two in the sun. Having suggested all this, you could quite understandably just choose to enjoy your time here at the hotel, in the shade and in the totally relaxing environment of your boutique, luxury hotel!
Welcome to Summertime at The Hideaway!
